Holly Springs, North Carolina, in Wake county and is ten miles south of Cary and thirteen miles southwest of Raleigh. The Tuscarora Indians, who originally inhabited this region, used the area as a hunting ground. However, the arrival of an entrepreneur, George Benton Alford, led to a revival. Alford started several businesses, including a sawmill, a cotton gin, a mercantile store, and the Holly Springs Land and Improvement Company. He also established the "Cape Fear Enterprise" newspaper. Holly Springs was incorporated as a town in 1877.
