Apex, North Carolina is five miles southwest of Cary and twelve miles west of Raleigh. It is in Wake county and is part of the Raleigh - Durham - Chapel Hill metro area. The population of Apex is 20,212. 4% of the town of Apex is 65 years of age of older.
Apex was incorporated as a town in 1873. It was named Apex because it is the highest point on the Chatham Railroad, running from Richmond, Virginia, to Jacksonville, Florida.
